Maxims Casino Club Kensington

Maxims Casino Kensington
1A Palace Gates Rd, Palace Gate, South Kensington, London, W8 5LS

Maxims Casino Club can be found across the road from Kensington Gardens and is located with the Palace Gate House. It known for its high-stakes gambling, with a poker room also on offer to that that wish to indulge. There is a restaurant on-site that is highly regarded, largely thanks to the fact that it offers people the likes of Middle Eastern and Chinese food in addition to the more standard variants of French and Italian. If you like to drink, the whisky bar here is very impressive, although obviously all aspects of it are things that you might struggle to experience given the fact that it is a members only venue.

A Building with History

The Palace Gate House was built in 1862 for John Foster, who was a contemporary of Charles Dickens. It underwent a renovation in 1899 and became known as ‘A house built for a gentleman by gentlemen’. Situated in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, you can imagine the sort of clientele that spend their time there just from that information. High-stakes games will often take place in the Dickens Card Room, which is a nice nod to the venue’s history. Don’t imagine that you’re going to be stepping back in time when you visit here, though; although many of the buildings original features remain, it has plenty of modern amenities too.

A Well-Stocked Gaming Floor

The casino is based across three rooms depending on what it is that you’d like to experience, with the Dickens Room, the Kensington Room and the Palace Room all offering something a little different from one another. You can play the likes of roulette, baccarat and blackjack, with stakes available at various different levels. The fact that it offers bets up to as much as £10,000 a go suggests that this is a casino that knows full well that it is going to be dealing with some high-rolling clients. The Library offers a place for private gaming, so don’t be surprised if it is off-limits when you go there, presuming that you haven’t been invited to take part.

Affluent Guests

Whilst you can technically become a member by attending with sufficient identification, make no mistake that this is a casino that is aimed at wealthy clients. Those that turn up are looking for a host of different options when it comes to both their gaming and their eating, so the casino does what it can to accommodate them. With basic bets starting at between £20 and £30 on even the lowest-stakes tables, this isn’t somewhere for the downtrodden to look to place their wagers.
