Maxims Casino Club can be found across the road from Kensington Gardens and is located with the Palace Gate House. The Palace Gate House was built in 1862 for John Foster, who was a contemporary of Charles Dickens. It underwent a renovation in 1899 and became known as ‘A house built for a gentleman by gentlemen’. Situated in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, you can imagine the sort of clientele that spend their time there just from that information. High-stakes games will often take place in the Dickens Card Room, which is a nice nod to the venue’s history. Don’t imagine that you’re going to be stepping back in time when you visit here, though; although many of the buildings original features remain, it has plenty of modern amenities too.
